2010 Ride - Day 1
Early start with a 4 am wake up to get on the bus and make a pick up at Liverpool fire station on the way to Campbelltown for the start.
Day break brings the sight of blue skies and no wind so with a police escort and well wishings from our sponsor The Fire Industry Assoc. and some reps from the hospital we hit the road. It didnt take too long before the first puncture hit at about the 25km mark closely followed by 3 more, one of which was a piece of metal which destroyed Stylseys brand new $80 flouro blue tyre. Was hard to get a good roll on with the stops but once we had a quick break at pheasants nest the pace picked up and we got to Suttons Forrest McDonalds for a relaxing lunch.
Back on the road and the heat of a sunny day was starting to sink in and the sunscreen was out along with plenty of drink breaks to keep the hydration up, not to mention 4 more punctures including an explosion from Brett Butler. The group was keeping together well and plenty of banter and sledging was going on.
With about 30km to go a few of the boys hit a bit of a wall and the pros of the pack were called on to help with a bit of a push on the back on afew of the hills but we all rolled into Nth Goulburn Maccas in a pack (another of our fantastic sponsors) for a quick arvo tea and then on to the main street of Goulburn for a bucket fundraising run which produced just under $1000. A huge thanks to the generous people of Goulburn for their support and also to the local toyworld for throwing in a bag of spares.
The last few kms up to Trappers Motel where we are staying for the night were the toughest of the day but the hot showers and cold refreshments made it worth it and we are currently relaxing before a nice dinner.
Looking forward to the school visit in the morning and the trip to Yass.
